Material Impact’s co-founder, Adam has had three careers. His first was developing products and companies that were later successfully acquired; his second was running large global teams and businesses that acquired early-stage companies; and his third is now investing in market changing companies in the deep tech space, including Gen Phoenix.
Prior to co-founding his fund, Adam was a Senior Vice President of The Medicines Company, where he led the acquisition and integration of four companies totalling > $1B in value. Other experiences include leading emerging markets for Smith & Nephew and serving as an R&D and New Ventures leader at Abbott. Companies that he helped found earlier in his career were acquired by Medtronic, J&J and Eli Lilly. Adam brings to Gen Phoenix an entrepreneurial experience, deep operational insights and global market knowledge.
Adam’s passion for education and mentoring young people can be seen in his service as Chief Mentor for NYU Stern’s Endless Frontiers, Executive in Residence at Columbia University, and Board Member of Duke University’s Graduate School. A native Egyptian and naturalized American citizen, he holds a B.S. from the American University in Cairo, an M.S. from Texas A&M, and a PhD from Duke University.
When not helping entrepreneurs, Adam indulges his passion for SCUBA diving, enjoys playing soccer, tennis and ultimate frisbee, and dabbles in cuisine.
