John joined Gen Phoenix in 2009 and is the driving force behind the company’s success. He leads Gen Phoenix from the front, with purpose and passion, and has worked tirelessly to translate the company’s extraordinary technology innovation into one that can have a massive real-world impact. His “roll up your sleeves” management style might have been best seen when he led the start-up of our $90 million, 220,000 sq. ft, state of the art manufacturing facility during Covid. He previously served as both COO and CFO at the company.
Prior to joining Gen Phoenix, John held various financial management positions of increasing responsibility with Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT), most notably global controller of a $2 billion business unit. AMAT scaled from $4 to $10 billion in revenue during his tenure, and his other roles included serving as CFO of a fully integrated $200 million manufacturing operation in the UK to leading post-transaction integrations of a $300 million Solar-focused business in Italy. With his time at Accenture, he brought decades of global operating experience to Gen Phoenix, which he has used to position the company as the only next generation materials supplier capable of delivering sustainability at scale.
John’s passion for high performance teams can be traced to his youth, where he played in competitive adult cricket leagues beginning at the age of 15. Team success continues to be central to his leadership style. He holds a B.A. (hons) in Finance and Accounting from the University of Hertfordshire and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Management Account.
He is an outdoor enthusiast, whose interests include hiking and mountain biking, and an avid Tottenham Hotspur fan, however lonely that may be.
