A process and data junkie, no detail is too small to elude Richard’s attention. A Lean Six Sigma devotee, Richard obsesses over how to improve quality, reduce cost and increase capacity of manufacturing processes. His contributions have had a significant influence on the company’s innovative and proprietary manufacturing processes, playing a critical role in the development and refinement of business operations.
Richard joined Gen Phoenix in 2025 from TRB Technology Group, a privately-held specialty manufacturer where he served as Managing Director. However, his route to manufacturing excellence was circuitous. Armed with a degree in sports science and art, he initially took a job as a trainer focused on team building in the outdoors so he could pursue his two sporting passions: whitewater kayaking and hiking.
His path was permanently altered when one of his clients, Perkins Engines, hired him initially as a trainer, but soon had him managing a lean implementation within the group. Thus began a 30-year career spent improving manufacturing operations at such companies as Maytag and Amana and managing plants with up to 5000 employees. Along the way he completed a five-year stint at Goodrich Aerospace where he became a Lean Six Sigma ninja and, later in his career, spent time at TBM Consulting Group implementing Lean Six Sigma transformations within the operations of client factories in the US, Europe and Asia.
Ever the outdoorsman, Richard sees his passion for extreme kayaking as having built a great foundation for operational excellence as both require keen preparation, deep precision, and efficiency in motion.
A BSc degree holder from Roehampton University and a nature lover, full circularity is a foundational value to Richard, and seeing Gen Phoenix bring that mission to completion is now a life goal. He and his partner Anna enjoy gardening, music and travel, and are lovingly rebuilding a home on the Great Ouse river in St. Ives, where he plans to enjoy kayaking for many years to come.
