First look: Dr Martens unveils recycled leather collection

British footwear brand Dr Martens has launched a collection of its signature footwear made using recycled leather.

The collection, dubbed “Genix Nappa”, is produced through a process where leather fibers are separated, re-entangled and crafted into the shoes.

Dr Martens said the range gives leather waste a new lease of life while “retaining the comfort, durability and longevity” its products have.

The new collection includes the brand’s 1460 lace-up boot, the 2976 Chelsea boot, both priced at £170, as well as the 1461 shoe at £140, the same prices as the regular products. All are available online and in stores.

The brand announced its plans to introduce recycled leather in some of its ranges last April, in partnership with recycled leather manufacturer Gen Phoenix.

It aligns with the business’s ambitions to reduce waste, source more sustainable materials and become a net zero company by 2040.
