Gen Phoenix, in collaboration with DOY Design, has announced it will supply Essence, its recycled low-carbon leather, for Heart Aerospace’s regional hybrid-electric aircraft, the ES-30.
The leather has been used to upholster 30 passenger seats in the full-size mockup of Heart’s latest demonstrator plane, Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1), which was recently unveiled in Sweden, the September 13 press release said.
Essence was chosen for its sustainability, lightweight design, and luxurious feel. It offers an 83 percent lower carbon footprint than traditional leather while maintaining the premium qualities of fine upholstery. Essence is designed for circularity to align with the aviation industry’s push for more sustainable, low-emission technologies.
DOY Design selected Gen Phoenix’s leather to complement their Ultra-Slim seats, known for their sleek profile and eco-friendly construction. These seats, with their thin structure and higher light levels, are designed to maximize cabin space while minimizing environmental impact. This partnership with Heart Aerospace highlights a shared commitment to decarbonizing air travel and creating a sustainable future for aviation.
“Our mission is to reduce our impact on the environment by adopting sustainable design practices and using materials like Essence, which offer both sustainability and quality,” said Gary Doy of DOY Design commented.
Gen Phoenix said it is excited to be part of this project, working alongside Heart Aerospace as they aim to revolutionize regional air travel with hybrid-electric technology and eco-conscious materials.
