Alex MacConaill

Quality & Operations Director

Naturally curious with a passion for detail, Alex loves to analyse and solve complex problems.  His 25 years of experience managing manufacturing operations across Europe and in China brings a sense of calm and clarity to any situation.  For Alex, Gen Phoenix gives him the opportunity to do his part to help deliver a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Thirteen years at Procter & Gamble set the foundation for Alex’s professional life.  While there he assumed increasingly important engineering and project management positions, culminating in him managing over 400 people and overseeing constructing a new Ukrainian factory (100,000 sq ft) and warehouse (200,000 sq ft).  But he also saw first-hand how disposable production can result in unintended environmental impacts, fuelling his enthusiasm for Gen Phoenix’s circularity mission.

Candid and possessing the highest degree of integrity, Alex is not the easiest manager to work for or with, but he strongly believes that challenging convention and taking on issues directly results in the best business outcomes.  He feels equally strongly that manufacturing excellence is a product of thoughtful organizational development: putting the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles.

Alex enjoys cycling, reading and travelling with his wife and two daughters. He holds a BEng from Nottingham University and a MSc in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where his fondest memory is his graduate student 4th team beating the University’s 1st team in football. His competitive streak runs deep.
